There are creatures on our planet that seem to run like the wind - perhaps they come from it. There is gentleness and a strength that arises with the ease of motion expressed gracefully in this running horse. The winds of fall carry with them the fiery colors of autumn leaves and the cool dampness that reminds of the season to come.
Artist’s Thoughts: This is amongst the most powerful paintings I have ever created. I have kept it in my own personal collect because of the energy it give my wife and I, and the delight we feel when we dive into it’s spaciousness. It’s large size really gives us the feeling of looking out a picture window into the energetic realms of this world or other worlds. There are times in our lives when all the noise in our mind comes to a complete stop. We notice the exquisite nature of our heart, how it’s love is the spaciousness that has room for it all. Created over three and a half years, each time I worked on this piece it was as though a power greater than myself had taken my hand and was painting this painting through me. This greater power was a force of love, that ofter would wash over my entire body floodining my eyes with tears. It is a reminder that to me that the hand of God is in all things. It is so easy to get caught up in life, start moving at the pace our society insists is normal. But doing so has it’s costs, perhaps the greatest of which is the loss of contact with our soul and spirit. Contact with our essense is contact with ecstasy, sensuality, freedom, deliciousness. Birth is a painting depicting the experience of being born, or having an awakening into a freer, lighter, more fulfilling way of being in the world.
I painted this while my wife was pregnant with my daughter Shanti. While painting it was as though I could feel the contcactions with all their tightness and release, the tension of moving down the birth canal, and the tears of joy and love being born into a world when I am truly adored.
I have had similar “birth” experiences when the tension of intense, and often dark, feelings are met and felt without resistance. Then in the midst of being with this which I can barely endure I find myself thrust into a light, a love, a freedom that is all encompassing.
This painting is all about these experiences for me.

Love is the feeling that flows through me through much of my time in front of a canvas. This is the feeling of being close, open, trusting and grateful in the presense of my beloved wife, love flowing gracefully and abundantly to, around and through us.

The elemental quality of this piece reflects a lightness and joy bubbling to the surface. There is a celebratory need that is expressed in this painting, perhaps something like opening a bottle of champagne on a joy filled evening. The spontaneity and organic nature of its creation reminds us of our own human uniqueness.
